Geothermal Department of Renewable Energy Organization of Iran is responsible to develop geothermal energy resources all over the country. The main responsibilities are:
1- Comprehensive investigations on geothermal technologies, resources and standards.
2- Preparation of provisions, standard and criterion and legislations in relevant organizations
3- Planning to establish and equip research centers for organizing joint research projects with universities and other research centers and supporting research projects on geothermal energy development.
4- Planning for supporting private industries on geothermal technologies.
5- Cooperation for capacity building in private sector and provide legal, technological and economical bases for cooperation of private sector and develop policies at all levels that economical bases for cooperation of private sector and develop policies at all levels that effectively move technologies and applications to the market.
6- Planning and carrying out the professional training for experts and engineers and general public awareness on benefits of geothermal energy applications.
7- Improving the contribution of geothermal energy to the nations energy needs depends upon supportive policies and incentive.
8- To address the issues, an analysis of productive incentive strategies needs to be provided to regulators and legislators, in order to encourage investment.
9- Policy recommendations and examples, and supporting analysis of impacts, need to be developed for assisting the legislative and regulatory communities in their analysis of useful approaches for encouraging resource growth.
10- Reduce the uncertainty of resource estimates by developing a detailed assessment that will build on the current effort of the SUNA.
11-Establish consistent, long term policies that encourage financing for and investment in geothermal resource
